My partner and I urgently needed to visit family in Connecticut, and were thrilled Stone Arches could accomodate us on short notice. We stayed in room 1694, named for the year of the historic home's construction. The room has a quaint faux wood stove (gas) in the original stone hearth. Although the entire house oozes historic charm, there's nothing antique about the luxurious modern bathroom ensuite to the room! It has a big shower with tall rainfall shower head. We found out at breakfast that Bette and Paul installed all the beautiful tile themselves (as well as tankless heaters for endless hot water, and other energy-efficient upgrades). You can feel the care and attention given to guests' experience in every handmade detail at Stone Arches. The Sterns gracefully accommodated my partner's dietary restrictions, and served us a delicious breakfast on the patio. I grew up in the area; the location is very convenient to UConn, ECSU, and the new Storrs Center "downtown" area with restaurants, cafes, and shops for anything you might need. Stone Arches Bed and Breakfast is a warm, welcoming place and we will definitely be back again soon!
I had a wonderful stay at Stone Arches! Bette and Paul are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and about the history of the house. They had many suggestions on what to see and do while in the area. The breakfast was wonderful. Home made scones, bacon, and eggs fresh from the chickens they have on the property. I was even able to help collect some eggs and pet one of the chickens.
Beautiful place. Nice and cozy would look phenomenal for a small wedding.
Staying at Stone Arches was wonderful. Paul and Bette are warm, congenial hosts full of ideas about what to see and explore at UConn and throughout southern New England. Hot coffee and blueberry scones for breakfast jump-started the conversation as we gathered in our pajamas - there's nothing formal or stuffy about the Sterns. The rooms are spacious,quilt-covered beds comfortable and showers stylishly upgraded to modern standards. And this renovated historic manse offers unique architectural details you won't find anywhere else, reflecting its former ownership by a quarry-owning family that knew how to use its products. Highest recommendation for style, comfort and hospitality!
